I have heard a lot of people arguing that the penis
can never break, no matter what happens to it. Almost all of them argue from
the point that there is no bone in the penis, so how can it break.
Yes! Even though is a rare case but the penis can
break and this is termed as penile fracture. Penile fracture can occur when there
is trauma to an erect penis mostly during sexual intercourse. Let me take you
deeper into its etiology scientifically. During an erection, the penis has two
columns or cylinders that are like sponges that fill with blood and make the
penis hard. These columns are referred to as corpora cavernosa (singular-
corpus cavernosum). These columns are covered by a protective layer called the
tunica albuginea. Your penis is considered “broken” when the tunica albuginea
is torn.

Symptoms of penile fracture may include;
- Hearing a crack or pop sound
- Sudden loss of erection (detumescence)
- Angulation of the penis
- Difficult urination
- Blood leaking from penis
- Pain in the genitals
Sexual Intercourse
Penile fracture during sex is the most common cause. The fracture can happen when your penis slips out of your partner and
thrusts against the area between the anus and the perineum or the pelvic bone. If you are not lucky, the tunica albuginea will tear leading to the fracture of the penis. Men ought to be careful during rough sex especially with the
position where the woman is on top of the man or the “doggy style”.
Energetic Masturbation
Masturbation is an act of touching your own genitals
for sexual stimulation or pleasure. Masturbation may or may not lead to orgasm.
A lot of guys stimulate their penis in a rough manner which could lead to a
tear in the tunica albuginea causing penile fracture. It mostly happens when
the individuals is about reaching orgasm. Extra care needs to be taken during masturbation.
Trauma to an erect penis
Another cause of penile fracture may be trauma to the
penis when it is erect. Falling onto your erect penis, rolling over unto
erection or hitting your erect penis against a wall or door in a dark room are
all examples of trauma that could lead to penile fracture.
Taqaandan
It is a method of bending the top part of the erect
penis while holding the lower part of the shaft in place until a click is heard
and felt. It is practiced by some Middle Eastern or Central Asian men in order
to make an erection go away or to change the shape or size of the penis. This
can also cause penile fracture. Such practices should be avoided.
The most obvious and concerning complication of penile
fracture is sexual dysfunction. This makes the condition a urological
emergency. Even though it is rare but men need to be extra careful in order to
prevent it from happening. Remember, prevention is always better than cure.
